You can conserve energy all year long if you wash your clothes in cold water. A dry towel thrown into the dryer will quicken the drying process and reduce the electricity used. Increase the efficiency of your frost refrigerator by vacuuming the coils quarterly. A standard mistake most people do is to leave their electronics on the standby mode. This applies to TVs, DVD players, computer monitors, notebooks and even phone chargers. Just for one month, make it a point to shut down all that you are not using. Switch off chargers that are not being used. In addition, if your computer needs to run then at least turn off the monitor. You will see the difference in your bill at the end of the month. This will automatically convince you of making a habit of such small acts to conserve energy.
Lighting takes a considerable amount of energy especially outdoor lighting. Replace all outdoor lighting with solar powered ones. Consider using smart lights that switch on when it feels illumination levels are low. Using them on your driveway, porch and even in your garden can dramatically reduce your electricity bills. Similarly, within your home, you can use solar powered lights to enhance your existing lighting instead of adding to more electricity consuming devices to it. Also, have dimmers installed on your lights to reduce the intensity of the light as needed.
